Residents Working Against Huron River Flooding engage in creative ways to minimize flooding along the Huron River and surrounding areas (e.g., Ore Lake). We also share information about resources for raising structures and about upcoming flooding events.

This organization is a member of Anthropocene Alliance, which will help us gather information about how to respond to the flooding issues in our community.

Some recent posts:

May 27, 2021 - Recently we had the chance to meet with our two hydrologists (Wendy Robertson and Scott Dierks), along with other local leaders and stakeholders to explore our region and the community flooding concerns. It was a great first meeting face-to-face (with masks and distancing) and we are looking forward to beginning data collection and monitoring along Ore Lake and upstream of Ore Lake in the coming weeks. More information to come, along with future opportunities to get involved!

May 11, 2021 - As promised (though a little late), we are excited to share that we will be working with two hydrologists, Dr. Wendy Robertson and Mr. Scott Dierks, on our Thriving Earth Exchange project to study the upstream inputs into Ore Lake and the surrounding region. We are very excited to begin this work and looking forward to all that we can learn from their expertise! We will keep you updated as this project gets off the ground. You can find more information about the project here: https://thrivingearthexchange.org/.../ore-lake-hamburg-mi/

April 22, 2021 - Even with current dry conditions, we still want to be prepared for flooding. To address regional flooding, we are working with partner scientists and the American Geological Union's Thriving Earth Exchange program to investigate water inputs upstream of Ore Lake and the Huron River. Stay tuned next week to meet our partner scientists! https://thrivingearthexchange.org/.../ore-lake-hamburg-mi/

February 25, 2021 - It's starting to warm up outside, which also means snow is melting and we are starting to see flooding in some places. As we approach spring, please consider posting updates about the weather and flooding on the iSeeChange app (https://www.iseechange.org). This company is gathering data on flooding in communities across the country which is used to garner support from local, state, and federal government agencies for flood mitigation efforts.

January 18, 2021 - Welcome to the newest visitors to our Facebook page! To help us best support our community, it would help to hear what your questions or concerns are about flooding in our region. How does flooding affect you? What questions or concerns do you have about flooding in our region?
